Types of solar electric systems
Solar systems con be as simple as just a solar module and a load, as in
direct powering of a water pump, or more complex, as in a power system to power
a modern home. While a water pump may only need to operate when the sun shines,
the home system will need to operate day and night. It also may have to run both
AC and DC loads, have reserve power and may include a back-up generator.
In either case, basic solar system principles and elements
remain the same. Systems are adapted to meet particular energy requirements by
varying the type and quantity of the basic element. And, as systems are modular,
they can always be expanded as power demands increase.
While solar power is often used independently, it may also be
used in conjunction with other complementary power sources to provide complete
energy solutions.
